Tooth crowns
When a tooth is badly damaged, a dentist will suggest a crown instead of a conventional restoration. It is a specific type of prosthesis that looks like a hat. It will be installed on a specific tooth to cover it completely and prevent further damage. A tooth crown is recommended in the following cases:
- A tooth that already had a root canal
- A tooth that already has a sizeable filling
- A broken tooth
- A tooth whose looks we want to change, whether it be because of color or form
Crowns are usually fabricated with porcelain, ceramic or an alloy of ceramic and metal. Your dentist will recommend which type suits you best. They are very sturdy and they last at least ten years. The color choice for the porcelain part that covers your tooth will be selected according to the natural coloring of your teeth so the overall effect will be perfectly natural.
