There are two types of dental restorations, also called fillings. The first on is called amalgam restauration (alloy of metal and grey mercury). It is easy to use, durable and has a good quality/price ratio. However, the grey color isn’t enjoyed by all and some mercury tends to leak when chewing food. Studies have shown no adverse effects on that matter. The second type is a composite restoration (white plastic resin). Some people will prefer this treatment for esthetic reasons (same color as a healthy tooth). Composite, while as efficient, is more expensive and there can be some leakage problems if the cavity is too deep.
